THE WOMAN WHO CHOSE HERSELF
Episode 1
“The Wedding That Never Happened”
The sun burned brightly above, but inside Amara’s heart, it was raining.
She sat alone in the small dressing room, staring at her reflection. Her white gown shimmered under the lights, but her eyes were dull, lifeless. The makeup artist had done a perfect job covering the dark circles under her eyes, but nothing could hide the ache in her chest.
Today was supposed to be her happiest day.
Today, she was supposed to become Mrs. Amara Nwankwo — the wife of the man she had loved since university.
But why then did it feel like a funeral instead of a wedding?
A soft knock came on the door. Her elder sister, Ifeoma, stepped in, holding her phone. Her face was pale.
“Amara...,” she said, voice trembling. “You need to see this.”
Amara’s heart skipped.
“What is it?” she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
Ifeoma hesitated, then handed her the phone.
It was a video — no, it was his video.
Chuka. Her Chuka.
The man she had waited five years for.
The man who had promised to love her forever.
There he was — in the video — kissing another woman. Laughing. Holding her the way he used to hold Amara. And it wasn’t an old video.
It was recorded just last night.
Tears blurred her vision as she dropped the phone. Her hands trembled violently.

“Amara... what do you want to do?” Ifeoma asked, already kneeling beside her.
“Everyone is waiting,” she added softly. “The guests... the pastor... Mama and Papa...”
For the first time in a long time, Amara took a deep breath.
She closed her eyes and listened — not to the noise outside, not to her parents’ expectations, not even to her broken heart — but to the small, trembling voice inside her.
And that voice said just one thing:
Choose yourself.
Amara opened her eyes.
She wiped her tears.
She stood up — tall, graceful, strong — and began to pull the heavy wedding gown over her head.
Today was supposed to be her wedding day.
Instead, today would be the day Amara walked away from everything — for the sake of herself.
